Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)

“You earned it, now keep it!”

United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) provides fast, free and confidential tax preparation services for low-to-moderate income individuals and families with a household income less than $55,000. All tax returns are filed by an IRS certified tax preparer.

Last year, VITA volunteers filed more than 60,000 tax returns across the region, returning nearly $48 million to local communities.



Always on the go? Through a partnership with H&R Block, community members who earned less than $66,000 in 2018 can file state and Federal taxes online at no cost using MyFreeTaxes.

Know before you go

Be prepared and have these documents in hand when you head to a VITA tax site:

• State-issued photo ID
• Social Security card or ITIN for each person on your tax return
• W-2s from all jobs held in 2017
• All 1099s, 1098s and any other tax forms
• Voided check for direct deposit
• Child care provider information, including SSN or EIN)
• Landlord’s name, address and phone number for CA renter’s credit
• Your household’s health coverage information (1095-A, 1095-B, 1095-C)
