Managing Director, Talent, Culture & Organizational Effectiveness

McKinsey Alston is United Way’s Managing Director of Talent, Culture and Organizational Effectiveness. In this role, he oversees all human resource functions, including organizational effectiveness, talent development and management, and workplace culture to create an empowered, inclusive, values-driven organization. He will also develop strategies to improve communication and collaboration among staff of all levels, as well as ensure that United Way’s workplace is reflective of the communities served.

McKinsey brings a decade of human resource and management experience to United Way. Most recently he supported the C-Suite as Global Human Resources Business Partner at Unisys Corporation. Prior, he was Area Human Resources Manger for The Sherwin William’s Company, where he oversaw HR operations for 272 stores and coached 17 District Leaders to build stronger teams. He also served as Regional Human Resources Manager with TownePark, and was a Human Resources Business Partner for Target Corporation, where he oversaw HR operations for 22 Target stores in Central New Jersey and Staten Island, New York.

He is active with Seed Spot, a nonprofit that empowers budding entrepreneurs with access to mentors, business fundamentals, capital sources and other resources. Through his involvement with Seed Spot, he has helped 23 local entrepreneurs graduate from the program since 2018.

McKinsey graduated from Rutgers University with a B.S. in Marketing and earned a Master’s in Human Resources and Organizational Leadership from Widener University. He also holds a certificate in Human Resources Management from Villanova University and a Senior Certification from the Society of Human Resources Management.
