JOB OPPORTUNITY INVESTMENT NETWORK (JOIN)
United Way is a partner in the JOIN Collaborative, a partnership created to address the workforce crisis in our region. While businesses in the region lack strong talent to fill critical jobs, a majority of the eligible workers are underemployed or not in the workforce at all. JOIN acts as the “matchmaker” between industry and the workforce, leading partnerships that train low-wage workers for high-demand, available positions.
In Philadelphia, two-thirds of the city’s existing jobs require skills possessed by only 50 percent of the workforce.
Labor Market Report
In 2013, the CEO Council for Growth and JOIN, partnered with the Drexel Center for Labor Markets and Policy to develop a detailed analysis of the regional labor market. This thorough examination of the region’s labor supply and demand, the first of its kind for the region, was developed to aid regional employers, funders, education and training providers, and community members in strategic planning and decision-making related to human capital and talent initiatives.
The papers in this series:
- Identify industries within Greater Philadelphia that have led the economic recovery of the region over the last several years.
- Provide information about the occupational structure in these industries and how to interpret the data on occupational staffing patterns in these growth sectors.
- Demonstrate a new method to identify the specific human resource requirements–abilities, knowledge, skills and behavioral traits–for successful employment within an occupation.
