IMPROVING SENIOR CENTER QUALITY
United Way helps senior centers improve their programming and staff training in order to achieve accreditation from the National Institute of Senior Centers – a national standard of excellence. In Pennsylvania, United Way was instrumental in helping 18 centers – or 90 percent – of those currently accredited achieve or maintain that status.
Accreditation is the official recognition that a senior center is meeting its mission, providing countless older adults with access to physical health and general wellness check-ups, as well as social and emotional support. And that, in turn, means United Way is meeting its mission.
Studies show that isolated seniors are more likely to have health problems.
