IMPROVING SENIOR CENTER QUALITY
United Way, with your support of the Impact Fund, helps senior centers improve their programming and staff training in order to achieve accreditation from the National Institute of Senior Centers – a national standard of excellence. In Pennsylvania, United Way was instrumental in helping 18 centers – or 90 percent – of those currently accredited achieve or maintain that status.
Accreditation is the official recognition that a senior center is meeting its mission, providing countless older adults with access to physical health and general wellness check-ups, as well as social and emotional support. And that, in turn, means United Way is meeting its mission.
Studies show that isolated seniors are more likely to have health problems.
