Your Heart Makes a Difference

Today, on Valentine’s Day, millions across the country are preparing to give heartfelt gifts to their loved ones. But there are some gifts you can’t put a price tag on — like the gift of your time or talent — that can make a world of difference in someone’s life and in our community.

Volunteerism is at the heart of what it means to LIVE UNITED. At United Way, we stand firm in the belief that lasting impact can only be achieved together. And this conviction is affirmed everywhere we look. In 2011, Americans volunteered nearly 8 billion hours, an estimated economic value of about $171 billion.i That’s real, measurable impact being made right here in our region and in communities around the world.

This Valentine’s Day, our message to you is “thank you!” Thank you for the gift of your heart — for volunteering to read in a local classroom, sharing your experience and wisdom with a teen in transition, offering your skill set to a local nonprofit, running those errands for your aging neighbor, and rolling up your sleeves alongside your coworkers to improve your community.

We always welcome your time and talent, from one-day community projects to ongoing volunteerism experiences that improve education for children, income for families and health for all across our region. So thanks again — your generosity of spirit warms our hearts!
