A Healthy Mind = A Healthy Body

Researchers have found a positive link between physical activity, attention and academic achievement in children. When young people are engaged in quality education during the school day and stimulating after school programs once the bell rings, they are more apt to graduate high school college- or career-ready. By providing children with a fun, safe place to play and exercise, United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ) and the Philadelphia Eagles hope to set children on the path to success.
All across the country, United Ways are working with NFL teams to help kids get more active by building fitness zones, hosting youth football clinics and rebuilding neighborhood playgrounds. Yesterday, Nnamdi Asomugha and Riley Cooper, on behalf of the Philadelphia Eagles, joined UWGPSNJ at Julia de Burgos Elementary School to dedicate a fitness space filled with equipment for the 2012 Hometown Huddle. Children in the community will now have a new, safe place to stay active, which will help strengthen their bodies and their minds, because of the generosity of the Philadelphia Eagles.
In addition to Hometown Huddle, United Way will continue its commitment to the Kensington section of Philadelphia this Saturday (October 27) for our first annual Community Cares Day, where volunteers will be participating in beautification projects throughout the community. Stay tuned for a blog post about Cares Day!
